Skamol

Skamol was founded in 1912 and is part of the global refractory industry. Skamol is an international market leader in supplying mineral based insulation materials to the aluminium industry ands other high temperature industries (e.g. cement and steel). The company is the Nordic market leader in supplying insulation materials to the manufacturers of stoves and fireplaces.

The insulation materials are produced from a local clay type, ‘moler’, and from imported calcium silicate and vermiculite. Skamol has three major production sites in Northern Jutland (in and around Mors).

Skamol’s strategy is to concentrate on and expand its core business. The fire protection division was divested in 2008 and a small perlite factory in France has been closed. Substantial investments in new production facilities for calcium silicate and vermiculite have been implemented. International acquisitions are pursued selectively as part of a buy-and-build strategy.

Divested to FSN Capital in December 2012
